What Do I Need To Know Before Starting The University Of Utah Admission Process?

In order to begin the process, there are certain prerequisites that the students must fulfil. Some of the basic things that you will require beforehand are listed here –

  • Contact information of your high school counsellor
  • A copy of your transcript
  • A non-refundable application fee of $55 for domestic students and $65 for international students.

The first step is to submit your application. Applicants need to submit their Common Application before the designated deadline.

The second step is to pay the above mentioned application fee or attach an approved fee waiver. Students who submit proof of financial hardship are liable to get an application fee waiver. Also, first time freshmen who have a permanent address in Utah or have been enrolled in a tribal high school and students who are active military members, veterans or dependents of the same do not require to pay the application fee.

The third step is to send your official transcripts. The applicant’s high school must submit the official high school transcript since emailed ones aren’t considered. If homeschooled, the home school transcripts must include course names, grades and graduation date if applicable.

The fourth step is to send your test scores. An official SAT or ACT score submission is required for all those applying from non-accredited US high schools, home schools or those who took  the GED or HiSET exam in place of a high school diploma. For other students, it is optional only for the 2022 and 2023 cycles. In case you select ‘yes’ as an option on the application, a time period of 30 days is provided to submit the scores.

As of now, the University of Utah admission procedure does not require students to submit any letters of recommendation or personal essays.

For transfer students, academic factors like cumulative transferable GPA, completed semester hours, grade trend, associate degrees and academic awards are considered. Extra curricular activities, community engagement and work experience are also taken into account.

International students have to submit their official migration documents, along with an official English translation in case any of their transcripts are in another language. Proof of English language proficiency is also required for international students. This can be demonstrated by means of exams like SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTs, iBT, or even Duolingo. For F1 visa applicants residing in the United States, once all documents have been verified and an academic decision has been reached on part of the University, an initial I-20 Certificate of Eligibility will be issued to the candidate.

How To Keep Track Of My Application?

Keeping track of your application is a wise decision in order to stay ahead throughout your University of Utah admission process. Students can do so on the website: Admission Checklist using the credentials they initially used to make an account while applying. However, it takes around 7-10 days for the online tracker to reflect any recently submitted documents.

What Financial Aid Or Scholarships Are Available For The Students?

The University of Utah offers several financial aid and scholarship opportunities to ensure that the students’ success isn’t hindered because of financial hardships. According to the data, around 87 per cent of students receive some sort of financial aid to accompany their tuition fee or costs of living.

Along with financial aid, the University of Utah also offers merit-based and need-based scholarships to incoming freshman students. To access need-based scholarships, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) within the given amount of time. It is to be noted that the merit review process is highly competitive. The University considers the following factors while making a decision –

  • Cumulative, unweighted high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.7. These students are most competitive for these scholarships.
  • The level of rigour of the courses taken as compared to the rigorous courses available at each school. It is considered within the context of each high school’s course offerings and curriculum. It can include the overall number or level of courses taken and the grades earned respectively.

The above information about processing applies to all merit scholarships, including the For Utah scholarship, administered by the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Although these statistics have been accumulated over the years, there is no one particular GPA or course schedule that assures that a student will receive a merit scholarship from the University.

For international students too, several scholarship options are available. Some of the important links for these are given here –
