Hatfield College of Technology was founded in 1952, and the University of Hertfordshire received the university designation in 1992. Its predecessor, Hatfield College of Technical, was founded in 1948 and ranked among the top 25 technology colleges in the UK in 1959. The British government granted Hatfield Polytechnic university status in 1992, and in 1993 it changed its name to the University of Hertfordshire. It is also a post-1992 university in the UK. It is a modern university with most of its facilities in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, around 35 kilometres north of London. The institution takes pride in having a "business-facing" attitude and strives to take a more innovative approach in teaching and learning, as well as providing a wide range of employment options and study abroad chances. The university belongs to the Association of Commonwealth Universities, which is made up of 535 institutions of higher learning from 37 Commonwealth nations. It also belongs to the University Alliance, a network of British universities that was established in 2006 and was given that name in 2007. The school's MBA programme is associated with The Association of MBAs, the only global MBA-specific Accreditation and Membership Organization.
There are two campuses for the Uni of Hertfordshire, located in College Lane and De Havilland.
