Overview

About

Aston University is a bustling, hospitable, and international campus-based university. It was established in 1895, and Queen Elizabeth II granted it a royal charter to become a university in 1966. Five schools, including the School of Business, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Languages and Social Sciences, the School of Life and Health Sciences, and the School of Medicine, are located on the campus and provide foundational, undergraduate, postgraduate, taught, and research programmes.

In numerous international league tables, Aston frequently achieves top rankings. Highlights include being ranked among the top 200 universities worldwide (2018 QS Graduate Employability Rankings) and the top 200 in Europe (Times Higher Education 2017 Best 'Golden Age' Universities in the World Rankings) (Times Higher Education European University Rankings 2018). You can choose to study French, Spanish, German, Mandarin, or Arabic while you are a student at Aston, either as an elective subject within your degree programme or as an extracurricular activity. The university provides more than 30 joint honours degrees, which let you study two distinct courses to the honours level while integrating the two academic fields.

When we talk about the convenience to stay in and around the university; Birmingham Airport is 20 minutes by train from Birmingham New Street Station, while London is 90 minutes by rail or two hours by car away for visiting overseas students. The main entertainment and commercial districts of the city are only a 10-minute walk from our multicultural campus. Birmingham City was named the UK city with the highest quality of life outside of London in the 2015 Mercer Quality of Living Report. Among the nicest universities in the nation, FHM and Virgin Student named Aston University top for student quality of life in 2010.

Every year, a programme called the International Orientation Programme runs to inform and assist new international students. At specific times at the commencement of each academic year, student volunteers known as "Aston Aunties" assist with meeting and greeting students as they arrive at Birmingham Airport and assist them in adjusting to the new culture and experiences awaiting them. Students are assigned a personal tutor to help them with any academic difficulties they may encounter while they are enrolled in school, and a team of international student advisers and welfare workers who are experts in visas and immigration are available throughout the year.
