FSU opens its portal for applications typically in August of every academic year. However, the university offers admissions for both Fall and Spring intakes. Please note that Florida State University reserves the right to close admissions before the deadlines due to enrollment limitations and a number of quality applications. Therefore, we advise international students to send their applications in well before the deadlines.

The overall acceptance rate for Florida State University came down to 36.0% in Fall of 2020 out of 58,000 applications submitted to the university. This number includes both in-state and out-of-state applicants. Among the applicants accepted, the average ACT scores were between 26 – 30 and the average GPA score was between 3.48 to 3.64. 

FSU in general has a very competitive selection process. To be accepted without any bumps along the way, you need to ensure that your GPA average is above average and you have a top percentile score on tests like SAT or ACT.

Criteria for Florida State University Admission

As an international student, you will need to submit officially certified copies of all the secondary school/college records along with exam results. Keep in mind that all your non-US institutions must be evaluated by a foreign credential evaluation agency to include a US equivalent GPA. FSU recommends you trust a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to do this job. Keep in mind that all your records should be in English. If not, it must be translated along with a certification.

  • Application fees

All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of USD 30 for UG and PG courses at Florida State University to be considered for admission. If you are sending an application through the Common Application or Coalition Application portal, you will need to pay an extra charge of USD 5. The application fee waiver is only available for those students who meet the specific requirements. We recommend you check the university for more details on the same. 

  • English Language Proficiency Test

As a non-native English speaker, you will need to sit for an English Language Proficiency Test like IELTS/TOEFL/PTE. Additionally, if you are pursuing a teaching assistantship position at FSU, you will also be required to pass the SPEAK test, which measures your English speaking proficiency.

Step-by-step process For Florida State University Admission

As an international student, you can send your application through the FSU application portal, the Common Application or the Coalition Application portal as well. If you are planning on applying through multiple portals, keep in mind that the university will only consider one application and will cancel the rest. We advise students not to send multiple applications as they may get rejected. 

Follow these steps to ensure a smooth application process:

  1. Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button and select the appropriate option for the application type.
  2. Start your application by creating a new account or logging in to an existing one.
  3. Select the application type, and intake and start filling in the details.
  4. After you are done filling in the information on all the sections, pay the application fees.
  5. Hit submit.

When Will You Hear Back?

PG course decision timelines defer as per courses, therefore we suggest that you contact the respective department for more information. On the other hand, UG course decision timelines are sent by mid-February to those who apply by the December deadline. If you submit your applications after the December deadline, your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

1. Can international students get financial aid/scholarships from FSU?

International students from selected countries are eligible for Linkage Institute’s Out-of-state tuition exemption. The university grants financial aid to F-1 status students with excellent GPAs and test scores.

2. Can I work while studying at FSU?

As an F-1 student you will be able to work on campus. If you have a J-1 visa, you may need to check in with the programme sponsor to receive authorisation to work on campus. 

3. Is on-campus housing available?

Yes. Florida State University offers multiple on-campus student housing options, but you must apply for it as soon as you get admitted since only selective students are granted accommodation on-campus.
