At the beginning of 2020, the enrolment of international students in the USA dropped by 1.8 according to Open Doors. But the year 2021 seems different, as universities have adjusted and found out the best ways to deliver courses to students without compromising on the student experience.

Why Apply to Universities In The USA?

Reasons why applying to universities in the USA is a great idea:

Education System Is Flexible

The education laws of the USA bring students together through general education to a place where they can choose their specialisation. This system has improved the achievements of American students and also reduced the number of college dropouts. In addition to that, the US education system is popular in scaling the potential of students and does not expect students to adapt to the education system. Rather, the country has designed its education system to meet the individual needs of its students.

Explore A Variety Of Subjects

Every university in the USA aims to offer a broad range of specialized courses to meet the requirements of international as well as domestic students. There is a wide variety of schools such as medical schools, business and management schools, etc. International students in the USA come across multi-cultural environments in their classrooms. This is because the country promotes inclusive growth and attracts talented students who have the potential to contribute to their fields of study.

Scholarships In The USA Are Easy To Find

Another reason that makes the USA a popular study abroad destination among international students is that the country offers a wide range of scholarships to students overseas. Scholarships, awards and grants are available in many universities in the USA especially in the fields of science, management, engineering and technology. Moreover, scholarships are regarded highly in the USA which makes it easier for recipients of scholarships to get jobs after graduation.

Find A Community You Belong To

Americans are big fans of community life and service. They believe in giving back to society and bring like-minded people together in a bid to make the world a better place to live in. As a result, you will find a number of communities that are clubs that function for a common goal. This includes clubs to save or protect the environment, a community for women and minority groups, a society for entrepreneurs and a lot more. Moreover, you will also find several informal and formal communities formed by the people of your country. For example, every college or university will have an Indian Club, a Philippine community, a Chinese community and so on.

How To Apply To Universities In The USA?

Here is the 4 step guide on how to apply.

Step 1

Apply to some of the top universities in the USA for postgraduate, undergraduate and PhD.

There are several steps involved in the university enrolment application process. The requirements of every university vary depending on the duration of your course, your country of origin and your financial circumstances. You also need to meet the English language requirements or get a high score in the verbal section of GRE or GMAT.

Step 2

Once you have applied to universities in the USA, you might have to wait for 3 to 4 weeks to determine your position in the university. Some might accept you based on your merit and achievements while others might waitlist you. Either way, your chances of getting accepted into colleges in the USA increase based on the number of universities you apply to. In other words, the more places you apply to, the higher your chances of getting accepted.

The cost of living in the USA for international students is on the higher side, therefore, while you wait, it is often suggested to international students to apply for scholarships.

Step 3

Get your documents ready. These include the following documents that are compulsory:

  • Academic transcripts. If you don’t know what academic transcripts are, you can always learn how to get all the academic transcripts from all your previous years off matriculation.
  • Financial documents. This includes bank statements, bank loan disbursements, scholarships you have applied for and its breakdown. Keep in mind, that your financial documents must clearly indicate that you will be able to support yourself throughout your study period in the USA.
  • While you apply to universities in the USA, you have to meet all their English language requirements. This includes appearing and craving English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL and PTE.
  • You must also submit your valid passport for identification.
  • In addition to the above-mentioned documents, some universities make it compulsory for students to submit an essay or statement of purpose.

Step 4

For international students pursuing academics at an accredited university would need to require an F Visa or M Visa. This is also applicable to students who are learning English at a university.

There are three types of F visas –

F-1 Visa for full-time students;

F-2 Visa for dependents of F-1 Visa holders; and

F-3 Visa for border commuters (Mexican and Canadian Students)

M Visa is applicable to students who are engaged in non-academic or vocational training courses. There are three types of M Visas
