TogglePost Graduate Work Permits In The UK
If you wish to graduate from the UK, have you ever considered applying for a graduate visa? In 2021, the UK Visa and Immigration started accepting graduate visa applications from international students, thereby giving them loads of post-study work experience. A Graduate Visa permits qualifying students who have completed their undergraduate or master’s degree to stay in the UK and work for up to two years. There are, however, some eligibility criteria that students must meet when submitting their applications. This blog covers all you need to know about the PGWP opportunities.
The Graduate Route
International students are welcome to apply for the UK’s Graduate Route so they can stay in the country after graduation and find employment or seek it. For overseas students who aspire to further their careers in the UK, this is a brilliant chance to find post-study work options around. You will have the liberty to work as a freelancer, do an internship, or get professional experience in the UK.
There is no minimum wage criterion, and there is no cap on the number of overseas students who can use the Graduate Route to stay in the UK. Once you find a job you like, you will have the option to change to a skilled career path and stay in the UK when your two or three years are over.
All students who are enrolled in a university that has been given the UK Higher Education Provider’s seal of approval are eligible for the Graduate Route. This action is undertaken in response to the UK’s desire to attract and keep the best students from across the world while enabling them to learn about the employment prospects available in the country.
With this Graduate Route declaration, new fast-track Visa pathways are being established, specifically to keep science scholars in the country so they may continue their research. As a result, the removal limit that formerly applied to PhD students is now part of the skilled worker visa route.
PGWP Eligibility
You will be eligible to apply for a post-study work visa in the UK only if you’ve met the suitable requirements for doing so. The following factors determine whether or not a student is eligible:
- the educational institution where the course was finished;
- the type of course taken by the applicant;
- how long he/she spent studying in the UK;
- the applicant lives in the UK;
- the candidate must currently be in the possession of a Student Visa or a Tier 4 Student Visa;
- the applicant has obtained a UK bachelor’s degree, postgraduate degree, or completed another suitable course on a Student Visa or Tier 4 student visa for the requisite amount of time;
- the university/college has informed the student about the completion of their course.
If you are not qualified for a Graduate visa, you may be able to stay in the UK with another type of visa.
Cost Of Applying For A Work Permit
You will pay application fees as well as a healthcare surcharge if you are an international student seeking a UK post-study work permit. You will need to pay a particular fee, which will depend on how long your permit is valid. Here’s what it looks like:
- A £715 application fee is required of you.
- The usual healthcare fee is £624 for each year you stay in the UK.
During the application process, you will receive confirmation and disclosure of the payment amount. If you work in healthcare in the public sector, you are probably qualified to get a refund for the healthcare surcharge you paid.
Validity Of A Post-Study Work Visa
A Graduate visa is valid for two years. It will be valid for three years if you hold a PHD or equivalent doctorate certification. Your visa will be effective right from the day your application is granted. However, you cannot extend your Graduate Visa. After you’ve applied online, verified your identification, and submitted your documents, you should receive a confirmation on your visa within 8 weeks. You are free to remain in the UK while you await a result. There is a chance to chance to switch to a different type of visa once you reach the validity and wish to extend your stay.
When Should You Apply?
Before their student visa expires, students must apply for a UK Graduate visa (PSW UK). Your university/college must have informed the Home Office that you completed your course successfully. Please keep in mind that you are not required to wait for your certificates to arrive. PSW visa holders can work in any employment for the first year following graduation unless they find one that allows them to apply for a normal work visa. This opportunity of living in the UK after graduation makes the UK top the list of international student destinations. These post-study work permits enable students to get valuable experience after they graduate.
