The Government of Kerala has taken up several initiatives to encourage and promote education amongst students. One such initiative is the DCE Scholarship Programme that is being run by the Kerala Government and its departments. In this article, you will read about the DCE Scholarship details and everything you need to know about it.

What Is The Objective Of The DCE Scholarship?

To put it in simple words, their key objective is to provide financial assistance to meritorious and deserving students of the state of Kerala.

A total of 16 Kerala scholarships are run by the Kerala central and state government, the key departments being the Department of Minority Welfare and the Department of Collegiate Education.

List Of Scholarships Under The DCE Scholarship Kerala Scheme

DCE Scholarship

ITC Fee Reimbursement Scholarship, Kerala

ITC Fee Reimbursement Scholarships are offered to students who are Kerala state natives and belong to minority communities. It aims in providing scholarships to students from weaker sections to pursue IT courses. It is a very useful DCE scholarship for higher education.

Department: Department of Minority Welfare

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a native of Kerala
  • Must belong to the minority section (Muslim, Sikh, Parsi, Christian, Buddhist, Jain)
  • Must have an annual income less than INR 8 lakhs

Benefits:

An award of INR 10,000 – for students pursuing a 1 year course
An award of INR 20,000 – for students pursuing a 2 year course

C H Muhammedkoya Scholarship (CHMS) Kerala

Students wishing to pursue their undergraduate/postgraduate studies are offered the C H Muhammedkoya scholarships under the DCE Scholarship Programme. Those students who belong to minority communities can avail the scholarship.

Department: Department Of Ministry Welfare

Eligibility: 

  • Must belong to either Muslim, Latin, or Christian community
  • Must be a Kerala native
  • Must have an annual family income lesser than INR 8 lakhs
  • Must study in a government university after having secured a merit-seat
  • Must have scored at least 50% in the qualifying examination

Benefits (per annum) :

Undergraduates: INR 5,000 
Postgraduates: INR 6,000
Professional Courses: INR 7,000
Hostel Stipend: INR 13,000

A P J Abdul Kalaam Scholarship Programme | DCE Scholarship Kerala

DCE Scholarship

Under this DCE Scholarship scheme, students who are natives of Kerala and are from the minority category and weaker sections are eligible to pursue their diploma courses in government/aided polytechnics. 

Benefits: Students who are awarded this scholarship, receive an amount of INR 6,000 per year for a 3 year diploma course. BPL candidates are included in this DCE scholarship selection list.

Prof. Joseph Mundassery Scholarship Award (PJMS), Kerala

Students who wish to pursue their education at SSLC (matriculation), plus 2, and VHSE levels and are Kerala natives belonging to minority communities and the weaker sections are eligible for the Prof. Joseph Mundassery Scholarship Award. This scholarship falls under the category of the DCE scholarship for higher education and the benefits are as follows:

Benefits:

Whatever level of study the student wishes to pursue, an amount of INR 10,000 is provided under this DCE Scholarship scheme.

Mother Teresa Scholarship (MTS)

Mother Teresa Scholarships are one of the DCE Scholarship for higher education, provided to:

  • Students who are Kerala natives
  • Students who belong to the minority community
  • Students who wish to pursue a nursing diploma/ paramedical courses
  • Students whose family income is lesser than INR 8 lakhs

Benefits:

An amount of INR 15,000 is awarded to students selected for this programme.

CA/ICWA/CS Scholarships

As the DCE scholarship name suggests, students wishing to pursue CA/ICWA/CS courses and meet the requirements of being Kerala natives belonging to the minority sections can apply for this scholarship. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, students need to secure at least 60% in their qualifying examination. Scholars will receive an amount of INR 15,000 as their award.

The following list below is the other DCE Scholarships, Kerala.

District Merit Scholarship, Kerala – Students pursuing VHSC, ITI or a Polytechnic course passing their previous studies with an A plus grade in all subjects are recipients of this scholarship.

Amount:  INR 1,250 per annum.

State Merit Scholarship, Kerala: For students who are in their first year of their UG or PG course and have secured at least 50% in their qualifying examinations with their annual family income less than INR 1 lakh.

Amount: Graduate students: INR 1,250 pa; Postgraduate students: INR 1,500 pa.

Sanskrit Scholarship (SSE), Kerala: This DCE Scholarship is open for students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degree courses with Sanskrit as a subject.

Amount: INR 200 per annum for UG and PG students.

Muslim Nadar Girls Scholarship: Open to girl students who belong to BPL and backward communities and must be in their first year of HSC/VHSC/undergraduate degree. 

Amount: INR 125 per annum to every scholar.

Music Fine Arts Scholarship: This scholarship is open to students studying in a Government music college or Government Fine Arts College.

Amount: INR 1,500 pa.

Blind/PH Scholarship: Blind students, physically handicapped, and deaf students are eligible to apply for this DCE Scholarship provided they are currently pursuing their education in Government/aided Arts and Science Colleges, Music Colleges, Higher Secondary/Vocational Higher Secondary schools.

Amount: These are scholarships for the disabled students and provide well for them. For blind students whose family income is below INR 2.5 lakh, they will receive a fee waiver; For the Physically handicapped students whose family income is below INR 4.5 lakh, boarding/hostel charges will be waived.

Hindi Scholarships: Students who are pursuing a UG or a PG course with Hindi as their core subject can apply for this scholarship.

Amount: UG students receive INR 500 per month and PG students receive INR 1,000 per month.

Suvarna Jubilee Merit Scholarship: Applicable to students in their first year of their UG or PG degree and belong to the BPL category, having secured at least 50 % in their last qualifying examination.

Amount: INR 10,000 per annum.

Post – Matric Scholarship For Minorities: This DCE Scholarship requires scholars to pursue their education from class 11 to PhD levels. It is open to minority community students with at least 50% having an annual income less than INR 2 lakhs. 

Amount: Admission and allowance – INR 10,000 per annum. Maintenance – INR 1,200 per month for 10 months.

Central Sector Scholarship: Students who have secured a position above the 80th percentile in their class 12 with their annual income less than INR 8 lakhs can apply for the Central Sector Scholarship.

Amount: INR 10,000 pa for UG 3 years. INR 20,000 pa for the 4th and 5th year. PG students – INR 20,000 per annum.

To Conclude:

Now that you are well aware of the DCE Scholarship, I’d suggest that you go ahead and apply for one of the programmes. The applications usually open in November – December and end in December – January although the deadlines vary as per the terms and conditions of the scholarship. Proceed with your application and add to the increase in Kerala’s literacy rates.
