ToggleAs a student, you may come across the question, “What is a CAS Letter?” We’ve got an answer to clear all your doubts. The Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter is issued by the organisation where you’ve been accepted for a course and must be submitted when applying for a new Tier 4 student visa. The letter includes a unique number indicating that the university named in it has agreed to be the academic sponsor of the applicant’s Tier 4 visa. The CAS letter is comprehensive, providing the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) with detailed information about your candidacy, chosen programme, and university. Aside from the identification numbers CAS number, the following information can be found in the letter:
- The license number for the sponsoring university
- Your course title
- Your course’s start and end dates
- The course’s tuition fee
- The quantity you have already paid toward your tuition.
- The amount you have paid for your lodging (if any)
- IELTS or TOEFL scores
What Is The Significance Of This?
A CAS letter is a required document used to apply for a student visa that confirms a student has received a letter of acceptance to study at a particular university. Students must either request a CAS letter from the university or have it issued to them so that they can obtain a legitimate student visa and then start moving to the university to study full-time. Each candidate is given a unique CAS number, which the Immigration officer uses to determine whether or not the candidate has received an unconditional offer.
How To Apply?
International students who have accepted the institution’s offer and paid the programme deposit are issued a CAS letter and number. Students can begin applying for student visas once they have received their CAS letter. After the offer is accepted, the university contacts the UK government’s UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) for a CAS number and affirms that the student has indeed been approved to study at the university on behalf of the student. UKVI issues the CAS number to the university, which then issues it to the student.
Some universities issue the letter automatically after the offer is accepted and the fee deposit is paid, whereas others, such as the University of Kingston, expect students to sign up on the official site before obtaining the letter.
How Long Does A CAS Letter Take To Process?
The CAS letter is typically issued on a first-come, first-served basis. As a result, applicants who submitted their applications early will be given preference. The institution will verify the students’ documents, and once affirmed, you will receive the letter within 2-3 working days (can take a few days more). Although the CAS letter is an important document, universities do not have a set time and date.
When Does A CAS Letter Become Available?
After a student chooses to accept an offer and completes all other requirements, the CAS letter is issued. Personal information, the course and its duration, and the unique CAS number will all be included in the letter. The CAS is an important document, but there is no set time frame for a university to issue it.

Requirements For CAS
It is critical to submit certain documents during the application process in addition to receiving the CAS letter without delay. In addition to an up to date passport, you will be required to file transcripts or mark sheets from your previous PG or UG course. Check that all of the documents are legitimate and have the appropriate credentials listed. After the documents have been verified, your CSA number will be issued.
CAS Letter Validity
The CAS letter is legally binding. If you do not use it in a timely manner, you may lose your chance to study abroad for a specific session. The letter is valid for six months, but it can only be used three months before the start of the course.
Assume, for example, that your preferred course will begin on October 1st, 2022. As a result, you will obtain the CAS letter as soon as May 1st, 2022. Then, in accordance with the three-month policy, you can apply for your study permit beginning July 1, 2022. Your CAS will be valid until November 1st, 2022.
Important Reminders
Certain factors can cause the CAS letter to be delayed or denied. As a result, it is critical to carefully complete all necessary paperwork in addition to receiving the letter on time. The following are some of the factors that may impede the issuance of your CAS letter.
- There isn’t enough time left to apply for a Tier 4 visa.
- The candidate is unable to arrive at the university first before the course begins.
- Inadequate funding.
- The applicant is currently enrolled in a part-time programme.
- Illegal documents submitted.
- The CAS request is submitted after the deadline.
