About The University Of Maryland

The University of Maryland, also known as UMD, is a public research university located in College Park, Maryland, USA. It was founded in 1856 as the Maryland Agricultural College, and it became a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities in 1969. UMD is the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland and has a diverse student body of over 41,000 students from all 50 states and more than 120 countries. A brief history of the university tells us that the predecessor of Maryland Agricultural College (the former name of this university) received its license on March 6, 1856. The Maryland Agricultural College’s first 34 pupils enrolled there on October 5, 1859. In February 1864, the institution was designated as a land-grant college.

Since it is so near to Washington, DC, the University of Maryland draws some of the best and brightest minds in the world. Pulitzer Prize winners, Nobel Laureates, and members of National Academies are among the faculty members. Their students have access to a wealth of facilities on campus. Additionally, the school makes sure that its students have access to internship and study opportunities. Since it is an R1 (According to the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, fulfil standards for a high level of research activity) institution, its president, Darryll J. Pines, is dedicated to having students who are engaged in conducting research. Modern learning and study facilities are essential for student success, not only in their undergraduate studies but also in their preparation for life after graduation.

Students can choose from a wide variety of financial assistance programmes to help cover the cost of attending a university in Maryland.
