Since ancient times, Asia has been a hub for learning and education. In recent years, Asia’s growing economic development, urban growth, and education reforms have offered a variety of increasing opportunities for international students who wish to study in the continent. However, since higher education in some Asian countries can get very expensive, students might need international scholarships and other forms of funding to cover their educational costs. Here is a list of the most promising international scholarships to study in Asia for deserving students:- 

Symbiosis International Scholarships

These scholarships offered by the Symbiosis institute in India are funded by the Symbiosis Society Foundation open to foreign students from  African, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries. The scholarships cover all academic expenses of international students while they are required to fund their own personal expenses. The Scholarship Committee endeavors to maintain gender balance and diversity while selecting the scholarship winners.

Asia Exchange Scholarships

These scholarships are open for students who plan to study at the Guangzhou University in China and other universities in Asia. The applications are open from the month of December to the month of April every year. To be eligible for the scholarship applicants need to submit an SOP and their academic transcripts. The monetary value of the scholarships is typically around 500 euros. This is one of the best international scholarships to study in Asia.

Bridging Scholarship 

Under this scheme, various scholarships are offered to American UG students who wish to participate in study-abroad programs in Japan. The Bridging Scholarship program receives funding from private NGOs and some major U.S. corporations through the means of donation. This has made it possible for the program to award about 100 scholarships to deserving students each year to assist them with the travel and accommodation costs incurred during their academic course of a semester or year in a Japanese university. 

HKSAR Government Scholarships Fund 

Under this scheme, various government scholarships are available for local and international students to fund their studies in the country of Hong Kong at selected educational institutes. One of these scholarships is the Belt and Road Scholarship for deserving students from the countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is being offered to other countries in phases.

Freeman Asia 

Under this scheme, the Freeman Awards for Study in Asia provide various scholarships to undergraduate students who are citizens of the US and show proof of their financial need and academic brilliance to study abroad in either East Asia or Southeast Asia. This is one of the top  international scholarships to study in Asia

Japanese Government Scholarships

The Government of Japan offers seven different types of scholarships to deserving international students under this scheme- under this scheme: scholarships for research students, teacher training students, UG students, students of Japanese studies,  students of the college of technology, special training students, and YLP students.

Tomodachi Internship Program Scholarship

This internship program scholarship was created after US President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Abe’s commitment to facilitate Japanese internship opportunities for US students. Under this scheme, the  Temple University in Philadelphia is eligible to award scholarships of up to $5,000 to selected students.

Temple Study Abroad Student Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all including students who are not graduates of Temple University. It covers all the costs of studying abroad. Each year several scholarships are awarded to deserving students, their monetary value ranging from 500-4,000 USD. To be eligible for these scholarships, the students have completed their full-time UG, display proof of need-based financial aid; be a U.S citizen or at least a permanent resident, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, and enroll as a full-time student abroad in Asia.

University Engineering Scholarship

The UES is offered to Polytechnic Engineering Diploma holders from Singapore. The students must be pursuing their full-time undergraduate programs at one of the following institutes- Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). It is open only for permanent Singapore residents and citizens.

Vietnam Center Semester Scholarship– The Loyola University in  Chicago offers these scholarships ranging from $500-$2,500 for deserving students wishing to study in Vietnam. To be eligible for this scholarship the students must be enrolled in the USD’s affiliate Vietnam semester program.

Yonsei University Exchange Student Scholarship

 The Yonsei University in South Korea offers various scholarships to international exchange students ranging up to $6,600 that cover their travel expenses, on-campus living costs, and a stipend amount for their living expenses. It is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Other international scholarships to study in Asia:-

  • Chinese Government Scholarships –  These scholarships offered by the Chinese Government are open to European Union students who are looking for scholarships to fund their higher studies in China. The scholarships are open to students of all study levels.
  • USTC Scholarships Program – The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) offers a variety of scholarships for international students and exchange students which cover their tuition fees, living expenses, health insurance, and a monthly living stipend.
  • DST A*STAR Call for Singapore-India Joint Research Grants – Under this scheme, various scholarship grants are offered to Indian researchers to study in the fields of science and technology in Singapore. The program is funded by the government of India and A*Star Singapore. It is a very competitive program, where scholarships are offered to the most brilliant students.
