The average acceptance rate for public universities is about 75%, which makes the University Of Illinois acceptance rate quite selective compared to other public institutions. But it’s not nearly as selective as some private colleges and universities including Harvard, Stanford and Yale which accept less than 10% of applicants each year. The university saw a high number of 45,000 applications for the fall cycle of 2023. According to Daniel Mann, associate provost for Enrollment Management, they have been receiving similar numbers for the past three years.

Trends In The Acceptance Rate Of The University Of Illinois

University of Illinois acceptance rate saw the lowest dip in 2023-24, where it decreased to just 45%. Statistical reports released in the 10th Day Report by the Office of Enrollment Management show a stark contrast to the university’s past acceptance rates. Since the past nine years, the admission rate has averaged 61.4% of the institution. This dramatic drop was due to a whopping 33% increase in the number of applications received that year.

UIUC, in its previous reports, revealed that it received over 63,000 applications during the 2021–2022 admissions cycle, which is a significant increase over the 2020–2021 admissions cycle, which was UIUC’s last pre–Common App. The university acknowledges that its first year on the Common App shook things up quite a bit. As a result, it became statistically considerably more selective, only accepting 45% of candidates for the 2022–2023 admissions cycle.
