ToggleWhat if I told you there was a scholarship and a grant for every level of study? A fellowship that’s got you covered every step of the way. Would you grab the opportunity or let it go?
Well, you don’t have to answer right away. However, once you get to know all about the NSERC Scholarship, your curiosity and interest will answer it for you.
But before we dive into it, let’s answer some of your questions
What is the NSERC Scholarship?
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada was established on 1st May, 1978. Earlier a part of the National Research Council, the body was created to support university based research. This was done through two ways: first, by providing studentships and fellowships. And second, by providing grants for assisted researches. To encourage excellence in research and assist selective research activities NSERC follows 2 mandates. First is to promote and assist research in natural sciences and to advise the council stakeholders about matters related to such research.
Who are the Decision Makers at NSERC?
NSERC consists of a council of 18 Canidians and 1 president. The grants are awarded to applicants who meet the council. The selection of scholars is done based on peer review. The council is advised by various advisory and standing committees during the peer review process. The selection of a scholar involves various rounds to attain this scholarship sounds more like an achievement than financial support.
What is the Eligibility for NSERC Scholarship?
You should either be a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen. The committee may ask you for proof of residency or citizenship which you will have to provide. You must not be declared ineligible by the Social Sciences Humanities Research Council of Canada or any other Research funding organization such as Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) on grounds of breach of ethics and integrity. This includes financial or scientific misconduct. The assessment of your application’s credibility will solely be determined by the council. You also should also accept the terms and conditions set under the Program Guide for Students and Fellows
Your research project should be a part of the overall research program in a field supported by NSERC.Whether you have received funding from NSERC earlier is irrelevant. However, it does not mean that you are automatically eligible for another grant. If the focus of your research moves from fundamental research to applied research, you may not be eligible for an NSERC Scholarship.
Guidelines for Health Sciences, Psychology and Anthropology are similar but differ to an extent. For this purpose, you are required to keep yourself updated with the latest guidelines by the council.
