QS Rankings Reveal Surprise Surges: China & India on the Rise!

The QS World University Rankings are out, and several fascinating patterns are to be noticed. The United States and the United Kingdom are still leading the charge, while China and India are making significant strides. In 2020, eight Chinese universities were incorporated into the ranking list, and country-wide, this meant a 19% hike in ranked entries. India is also “soaring,” with a 19% rise in ranked entries and a 17% boost in overall performance. India also has five new entries.

Consequently, these rankings portray the university’s teaching and academic research excellence level. They depend on various factors, such as academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, and research output. If you plan to study abroad, don’t forget to refer to the QS rankings to see how your preferred universities rank.

Who are the top countries in the QS Rankings 2024?

The US and UK continue to dominate the QS Rankings, with the US holding the most ranked universities (around 3,039), followed by the UK (around 1,569). However, China is making significant strides.

How did China perform in the 2024 QS Rankings?

China is ranked eighth overall but saw the most significant rise this year. Eight new Chinese institutions were ranked for the first time, and the country saw a 19% increase in ranked entries overall.

What about India’s performance in the rankings?

The article describes India’s rise as “soaring.” India also saw a significant increase (around 19%) in ranked entries and a 17% boost in overall performance compared to 2023. Additionally, five new Indian universities entered the rankings for the first time.

What factors are considered in the QS Rankings?

The QS Rankings consider various factors to assess universities, including academic reputation (faculty achievements, research citations), employer reputation (graduate employability), student-to-faculty ratio, and research output.

Are the QS Rankings the only consideration for studying abroad?

While the QS Rankings provide valuable insights into university quality, they are just one factor to consider. Other factors like programme offerings, scholarship opportunities, cost of living, and location also play a significant role in choosing a study abroad destination.

This percentage signifies the growth from last year by 3% and an increase of 17% in the past five years. These flows place France sixth among world countries in terms of the number of international students.

Officials justify this through France’s open-door policy for foreign students and researchers. The president has just reversed the overseas students’ fee hike by the government. This shows the willingness of the country to expand its human capital. This free-entry policy is turning out to be a huge success, as the number of international students in France shows a more significant spike than during its pre-covid times.

How many international students are there in France?

As of the 2022/23 academic year, France has over 412,000 international students enrolled in its higher education institutions.

How has the number of international students changed in recent years?

Compared to the previous year, there has been a 3% increase. Over the past five years, there has been a significant 17% jump.

Why is France becoming more popular for international students?

Officials attribute the rise to France’s welcoming policies for international students and researchers. Additionally, the recent overturning of a government proposal to increase fees for international students further emphasises this commitment.

How does this benefit France?

International students contribute to French universities by fostering diversity and dynamism on campuses. They also contribute positively to the French economy through tuition fees and spending habits.

What is France’s ranking as a study-abroad destination?

France remains the sixth most popular destination globally for international students.
