The University Of Iowa Entry Requirements

At UI, there are about 200+ undergraduate majors and minors available. During the academic semesters of Fall, Spring, or Summer, students can submit an application for admission to the university. Through the Iowa Office of Admissions or Common Application, undergraduate students can apply with an application fee of around USD 55. The University of Iowa entry requirements are -

Undergraduate Admission Requirements:

  • Official academic transcripts
  • A 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale which is approximately 83% - 86%
  • Completed secondary school
  • 3 years of secondary coursework 
  • Proof of finances
  • School leaving certificate
  • Copy of passport
  • SAT/ ACT scores (only for scholarships and English proficiency waiver)
  • English Language Proficiency -
    • TOEFL iBT: A minimum score of 80
    • IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5

More than 100+ fields of study are available for graduate and professional students to enrol in at the UI. The university provides a number of online, remote learning, and combined degree programs. Depending on the field of study selected, there are different application dates and admission standards. International applicants must submit their applications as soon as possible to allow for the application review and visa application process.   • An Undergraduate/Bachelor's degree which is equivalent to that of a regionally accredited American College
  • A minimum 3.0 GPA which is around 83% - 86% or a B grade
  • Proof of English Language Skills
  • Letter of Recommendation (LOR)

  • Statement of Purpose (SOP)
  • GRE/ GMAT score (No minimum score required and is optional for some programs)
  • Financial Statement (upon acceptance)
  • English Proficiency Test Scores -
    • TOEFL or TOEFL iBT: A total score of 81
    • IELTS: An overall score of 7 with no band score less than 6
    • Duolingo: A minimum score of 105 or more

For new students, a one-time $225 University Records and Document Fee is included along with the tuition fee. International students and undergraduate students in business, engineering, medicine, nursing, and pharmacy pay different tuition and fee. For part-time and online students who enrol in fewer than 12 semester hours every semester, tuition and fees are calculated according to the number of semester hours.
