The University of Iowa is a public research university located in Iowa City, Iowa, in the United States (also known as UI, U of I, UIowa, or just Iowa). It is the oldest and biggest university in the state, having been established in 1847. It was the first public university in the United States to launch a coeducational medical school, become coeducational, and include a department of religious studies. The university was given a triple mission of teaching, research, and public service upon its founding by the state legislature. Facilities
The student organizations on campus include clubs for politics, athletics, gaming, lifestyles, dance, music, drama, and a variety of other activities. Additionally, the university makes an effort to support activities that provide students with an alternative to the usual partying scene.
