Stony Brook University has shown excellence by securing 251–300 spot on the global scale.

Stony Brook University was ranked by the US News & World Report in 2022 among the top 100 for all national universities and public universities. The university was placed among the top 50 in the US by the QS US University Rankings. The Wall Street Journal named the university as the second-best public university in the Northeastern United States in 2020, tied with two other institutions.

According to Kiplinger's Personal Finance, the university was the country's 33rd best value for in-state students and the 26th best for out-of-state students. SBU was ranked eighth among public universities that send students to prestigious graduate programs by The Wall Street Journal in past years. In 2021, the Stony Brook College of Business received international AACSB accreditation. A group of Journalism School students took home the Edward R.
