According to the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF), OBU conducts 97% of its research in fields with at least some level of international acclaim. Additionally, it was discovered that 70% of their research fields were deemed to be of "world-leading" or "internationally good" quality. The Sunday Times University Guide's rankings for modern universities have been led by OBU for 11 of the previous 12 years. The Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 rankings placed Oxford Brookes University between 601-800 globally. While the university maintains a position among the top 1000 institutions worldwide, its ranking fluctuations across major indexes reveals inconsistencies in its broader academic reputation. The QS Subject Rankings 2023 placed its Master in Management between 101-150 specifically for Accounting and Finance, unchanged from 2022. The nursing program has declined slightly from its 2022 position of 151-180.
