This accredited integrated master’s covers mechanical, computational and sustainable life-cycle engineering in this high-tech field. Over four years, students develop professional engineering skills, with a focus on innovative and sustainable solutions to future Aeronautics and Aerospace trends.
 

Individual and group engineering design projects demonstrate students expertise to future employers. Whilst a fourth year, at master’s level, it helps to transition from study to professional practice.

Course content
 

Students develop a strong technical background in the key subjects of Aerospace Engineering such as air/space-ship structure, design, propulsion, control and manufacturing. Management studies and sustainable life-cycle engineering skills are also integral parts of the course.
 

Year 1
 

Build a firm foundation in mathematics, engineering, physics, materials and manufacturing, thermo-fluids electronics and computing, with our largely shared engineering first year.

  Grow knowledge in Aerospace engineering with modules including fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, structures and materials, mechatronics and systems, data processing and analysis. Understand how Aeronautics / Aerospace engineering is part of the circular economy.

  Deepen expertise with applied modules in analysis and design of typical aircraft, composite materials and manufacturing, structural analysis, aerospace propulsion, gas dynamics and flight mechanics and control. Enjoy the learning experience of wind-tunnel flows and complete an aerospace engineering design group project.

  Transition from academic study to professional practice with a major integrated design project supported by our industry partners and individual research work. This is complemented by advanced modules in computational simulations techniques and experimental methods and advanced aerodynamics in addition to a selection of two optional modules.

  GCSE:

  A minimum of grade 4 (C) in English Language and Mathematics in addition to other outlined requirements.

  In addition to our other entry requirements, City also accepts T-levels with the following grades:

  • T-Level in Design, Surveying and Construction. Must have an overall “Distinction” with at least B in the core. Must have “Distinction” in the Occupational specialism of Civil Engineering
     

  Contextual offers

  We apply a contextual admissions process for UK undergraduate applicants who have been in care or are the first in their family to enter Higher Education. Those who are eligible may receive a conditional offer with reduced entry requirements, typically two grades lower for A-levels and one grade (or eight tariff points) for BTEC or mixed qualifications.

  Mixed qualifications

  Typically the only scenario where we make conditional offers expressed as UCAS tariff points is when an applicant presents mixed qualifications, most typically a combination of A-levels and a BTEC qualification.

  In this instance, we may make a tariff point offer to present the applicant with more flexibility on equivalencies. In this case, please be aware that we may still ask for a specific score across certain qualifications and subjects. E.g. 'This offer is conditional on you achieving 128 tariff points. This must include A-level Mathematics at grade B.'
   

  Subject exclusions

  We do not accept General Studies and Critical Thinking. These subjects will not be included in any conditional offer we make.
   

  Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

  We welcome applications from students who are completing relevant EPQ Projects. Whilst we recognise the value of these projects in preparing students for independent learning at university, the EPQ is unlikely to form part of any conditional offer we make.

  The EPQ will also not lower the specifics of any conditional offer we choose to make. We will consider the EPQ as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.
   

  AS levels

  We recognise that there will be differences of opportunity varying by school and college. As not all students will have the opportunity to sit AS Level exams, it is unlikely we will include AS Level grades in any offer we choose to make. Where students have completed an AS Level subject, we will consider this as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.

The fees indicated are for undergraduate entry in the 2023/ 24 academic year only. Fees for future years may be subject to an inflationary increase, which is normally 2%.

Aerospace engineers are the key personnel to support the shift towards a sustainable Aerospace industry while facing the strong demand in growth of aerial transport, defence, satellite communication and space exploration.

There is a huge demand for engineers with multi-disciplinary skills and good training with international teams to address those challenges.
 

City graduates will have grown in such an environment during their studies and have worked in interdisciplinary projects, addressing the need for such educational and practical preparation for the industry. This is documented in good employability at the top tier industry.
