About

The City, University of London (CUL) is a public research university in London, England, and a member of the federal University of London. It began as the Northampton Institute in 1894 and became a university when CUL was established by the royal charter in 1966. The Inns of Court School of Law was founded in 1852 and merged with CUL in 2001, making it the university's oldest constituent part. In 2016, the city joined the federal University of London, becoming one of the eighteen colleges and ten research institutes that created the university.

 

The institution's campus is in Central London, with additional locations in the city, Islington, West End and East End. The Graduate School, the Department for Learning Enhancement & Development (LEaD), and interdisciplinary centres round out the institute's academic structure. Within the university's various schools, there are approximately 40 centres and academic departments. The university currently has 250 Indian students. It provides students with undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programmes, as well as certificates and diplomas. The university is home to five schools including -

The university has four libraries and seven lecture theatres. CUL libraries have over 1,600 seated study spaces and up to 250,000 books. Professional bodies such as the BPS, BCS, CILIP, HPC, ICE and RICS recognise more than two-thirds of the institution's programmes. In addition, the university has an online career network where current students can get help from former students. The university's impressive alumni network includes over 140,000 former students from 180 countries. CUL is a founding member of the WC2 University Network which strives to address cultural, environmental and political issues of mutual interest to world cities and their universities. City University London achieved a notable position on the global stage, securing #889 position.


QS World University Ranking 2024:

City, University of London has shown excellence by securing 351–400 spot on the global scale.


The university is now firmly established as a top 400 global university, and seven CUL subjects have also made it into the top 200 global subject rankings, with Communications and Media performing best. CUL has a strong musical reputation due to its affiliation with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Nursing and midwifery, social work and social policy have also performed well in the subject rankings.

 

In the 2021 REF, the university was ranked 39th out of 129 universities in the UK which was an improvement of 12 places since REF 2014. In REF 2021, the proportion of its research rated world-leading nearly doubled to 40%. In 2018 and 2019, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) placed CUL among the top 1000 universities. Times Higher Education (THE) has raised the university’s ranking in its best university ranking from 401-500 in 2020 to 351-400 in 2021. City, University Of London Entry Requirements

Undergraduate students must apply through the UCAS portal, while postgraduate applicants must apply through the CUL graduate programme application webpage. The essential City, University of London entry requirements, academic standards and language competency tests required for applying to the university's various programmes are as follows -

 

For Undergraduate Studies:

  • Students must meet the general minimum threshold of passes in two subjects at GCE A-level or equivalent in order to enrol in a degree programme. The university accepts a  wide variety of credentials that are comparable to A-levels.
  • Students must fulfil any additional requirements that may be higher than the minimum standards set by the university for the course they are applying for.

 

For Postgraduate Studies:
