From bachelor's degrees through doctorates and life-long study, the institution supports open access to information. It features cutting-edge equipment favourable to effective work on its campuses in Paris and in its regional maritime stations.

Sorbonne University's acceptance rate is at 100%, indicating a lenient entrance procedure. The overall number of international students is 8,687, accounting for 20% of the total student population. The institution has established several research programmes with the goal of reinforcing or exploring new subjects of study in order to expand the worldwide impact of its research infrastructures. To highlight this innovative cross-disciplinary strategy, four new academic chairs were created. Sorbonne is one of the 23 European research institutions that comprise the League of European Research Universities, which also includes Cambridge and Oxford.
