Geography Scholarships for International students

The study of geography encompasses much more than the actual locations of cities and states. Geography is a broad field that covers not just physical location but also social consequences, cartography and mapping, the environment, and other closely connected topics. Geography helps you understand and appreciate the world a whole lot better. To get a full understanding, you must study the human as well as physical geography, including culture, history, religion, language and more. In order to encourage more students to take up geography, universities have launched a number of geography fellowships and grants.

Graduates of a Geography program can work in a wide range of fields, and covering many scientific disciplines. Geographers are used by the government for a variety of purposes, including meteorology, GPS navigation, military intelligence, and disaster assistance. Work is also possible in the public or private sector, in fields like urban planning, surveying, conservation, exploration, or geographic information systems, which are all closely connected to the subject of study (GIS). Before we get into geography scholarships for international students, let’s take a look at the geography program structure at most of the popular universities.

Both a BSc and a BA in geography are available at the undergraduate level. Both choices will typically cover many of the same topics and modules, however a BSc will be more focused on physical geography, while a BA will be more focused on human geography. The majority of undergraduate programmes take three to four years to finish.

A master's degree in geography can be completed in one or two years, and programmes are available as an MSc, MA, or MRes (Master of Research). Many institutions offer PhD doctorate degrees, but you must have a master's degree in a suitable field to apply.

Written examinations, coursework, essays, and a final year research dissertation will be used to evaluate most geography programmes. You'll be taught in a variety of ways, including lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions, as well as a significant amount of private study time.

Western Michigan State University Scholarship

This scholarship provides a number of scholarships, grants and awards designed for Geography students. Undergraduate scholarships are $500 - $1500. Graduate scholarships and awards are also available. The Geography program at WMU offers concentrations in travel, urban planning and conservation science.

California State University-Northridge Scholarships

CSUN prides itself on its Geography department and in order to attract as many students as possible and offset the costs of the program, CSUN also sponsors a handful of attractive geography scholarships for college students. For instance, transfer students from community colleges are eligible to apply for the Michael Tamburro Scholarship, which covers all university costs for full-time undergraduate geography majors. Applicants must have an aptitude for geography that is above average. Participation in relevant groups or activities outside of the classroom might be beneficial. It was specifically designed to assist such pupils.

Oklahoma State University’s Department of Geography Scholarships

This university presents a multidisciplinary, holistic approach to the study of geography. Urban planning, cartography, and a variety of additional specialties are available to department majors. The following scholarships are available to Geography students at OSU:

  • Robert C. Fite Scholarship goes to a freshman whose efforts surpass their peers.
  • John F. Rooney, Jr. Scholarship is specifically designed for juniors in the Geography major.
  • Robert E. Norris Memorial Scholarship is the department’s graduate level award.

British Chevening Scholarships

British Chevening Scholarships 2022 is open for Developing Countries, Commonwealth Countries Chevening Countries. The scholarship allows Postgraduate, Masters level program(s) in all subjects, including Geography, taught at UK Universities. This scholarship is funded by British Government. A Chevening Scholarship normally covers university tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants and allowances to cover essential expenditure.

Humboldt State University Scholarships

These scholarships are offered by Humboldt State University to its Geography students. The John L. Harper Scholarship was established in memory of an esteemed faculty member in 2001. Faculty chooses the most outstanding geography student for the annual award. The Herring Geography Scholarships are more need-based than merit-based and provide up to $1,000 in financial support. The Dr. Joseph Leeper Geography Scholarship is a great geography scholarship for international study. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 ($500/semester).

Department of Geography at the University of Montana Scholarships
The Harold Bockemuehl Scholarship is designed for undergraduate or graduate students whose concentration is in Cartography and GIS. Every year, the Kain/McKay Scholarship is given to a deserving Geography undergraduate. The reward is offered in the form of a tuition credit that may be credited to the student's account. This is one of the best geography scholarships for international students. The Geography Faculty Award is awarded in the Spring Semester to an outstanding graduating senior. The monetary value of this award is a token sum contributed by members of the Geography Faculty.
