About
The University of South Alabama (USA) is a public research university located in Mobile, Alabama. It was founded in 1963 and is the largest university in the state.
In May 1963, the Alabama Legislature established the institution, which took the place of extension programs already run by the University of Alabama in Mobile. When the first lessons began in June 1964, there were 276 students present.
USA has a diverse student body of about 1,910 undergraduate and graduate students and offers a wide range of academic programs in a variety of fields, including business, education, engineering, nursing, and the liberal arts. There are more than 50 bachelor’s degrees and certificate programs with more than 38 master’s degree programs along with those of Mitchell College of Business and also in the fields of medicine, health and education. Also adding to the list of programs are the 13 doctoral programs in Allied Health Professions.
The university is known for its strong research and service programs and has partnerships with local hospitals, schools, and businesses to provide opportunities for its students to gain real-world experience. The USA is also home to a number of athletics programs, including football, basketball, and soccer. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
