About

Tulane University (TU) is a private research university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Its full name is the Tulane University of Louisiana. The university was established in 1847 as a comprehensive public university by the state legislature after being founded in 1834 as the Medical College of Louisiana by seven young physicians. In 1884 and 1887, Paul Tulane and Josephine Louise Newcomb endowed the university, turning it into a private institution. It is the ninth-oldest private institution in the Association of American Universities. The Law School and Medical School at the university are the country's 12th- and 15th-oldest medical and law schools, respectively.
