Overview

About

Located in Auburn, Alabama, Auburn University (AU) is a public university known for its excellent quality of education. East Alabama Male College (a private liberal arts institution connected to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South) was the name given to AU when it received its charter on February 1st, 1856. It was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama in 1872 and turned into the state's first land-grant institution as a result of the Morrill Act. One of the two public flagship colleges in the state. Five Rhodes Scholars and five Truman Scholars are among the university's alumni, and it is ranked among "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity" institutions.

AU is the second-largest university in Alabama with more than 31, 520+ students enrolled out of which 24,930+ are undergraduate students, 5,510+ are graduate students, and 1,080+ students studying professional degrees. For incoming students, orientation and training programs mark the beginning of campus activities and events. Camp War Eagle and Successfully Orienting Students are two of AU's student orientation programs. Freshmen and their guests are given the opportunity to participate in Camp War Eagle, which helps them acclimate to college life at the university. The course Successfully Orienting Students is intended for college students who are moving from another university to AU. Additionally, first-year students have the chance to take part in learning communities and seminars with other first-year students. Welcome Week and Hey Day are two other notable on-campus occasions and activities. A multi-day series of events called Welcome Week is held on the first few days of the semester to welcome both new and returning students. One of the university's oldest customs, dating back to World War II, is Hey Day, during which everyone on campus wears nametags and shakes hands.

It became the first four-year coeducational institution in Alabama in 1892, and to reflect its evolving goals, in 1899 it changed its name to Alabama Polytechnic Institute (API). In order to reflect the broad range of academic offerings and broader curriculum of a major institution, its name was changed to AU in 1960. The Princeton Review's ranking of the happiest college campuses placed AU at the top, because of the diversity of on-campus activities and events that it offers.
