About

Adelphi University (AU) is a private university located in Garden City, New York. Additionally, the university has locations in Suffolk County, the Hudson Valley, and Manhattan. For students who live far away, there is also a virtual, online campus. It was initially established as a preparatory school in 1863 and was formally chartered in 1869. In 1963 the institution received its university status from the New York State Board of Regents. Facilities

The athletic teams that represent AU are known as the Panthers. The Panthers have been a part of the Northeast-10 Conference since 2009 and participate in all sports at the NCAA Division II level. In three separate sports, the Panthers have won 18 NCAA Division II National Championships. An NCAA Division II-record ten championships have been achieved by the women's lacrosse team, including three straight National Championships in 2009, 2010, and 2011 as well as back-to-back championships in 2014 and 2015, and most recently in 2019. The men's soccer squad won the national championship in 1974. In track and field, they have also won a lot of individual national titles. The AU Panthers have become a force in the East Region since joining the Northeast-10. The Panthers also won the 2013 Northeast-10 Presidents' Cup in just their fourth season in the league. Each year, the Northeast-10 awards its overall top athlete with the Presidents' Cup. The university earning the highest overall points from all of its programs competing in conference championships receives the distinction.
