Program Overview
Our Sociology courses respond to the crucial need for professionals working with groups, and individuals, at risk of exclusion, in a range of settings, eg education, health and social care, criminal justice, welfare, employment, exclusion, diversity and disability. Students will develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of exclusion, disadvantage, power, and agency within today’s contemporary society. This degree focuses on sociological theory but also draws upon theory from social policy and social psychology to examine the impact of exclusion and disadvantage.
Issues such as culture, politics, media, health and social care, well-being, and a range of social factors will be explored, including ideas about forms of disability, gender diversity, social representations in the media, criminal justice, sustainability, power and control, multi-agency working, the role of social care and welfare, social justice and inclusion
