Physiotherapy Pre-registration MSc

at Northumbria University

Learning in practice is an integral part of the course. There are a total of six Clinical Practice Placement (CPP) periods, adding up to 1,000 hours in the workplace.

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including enquiry-based approaches in which you will be an active participant in your learning. As with other master’s degrees there will be a major element of independent learning and self-motivated reflection.

 

Our assessments are designed to promote academic development and professional practice. Methods include written assignments, presentations and assessments of placements.

Year one

 

• PT6004 -Foundation Skills for Physiotherapy Practice (20 Credits)
• PT7000 -Management skills for physiotherapy 1 (20 Credits)
• PT7001 -Management skills for physiotherapy 2 (20 Credits)
• PT7002 -Physiotherapy for Health and Wellbeing (20 Credits)

Year two

 

• PT7003 -Innovation, leadership and preparation for working life (20 Credits)
• PT7004 -Physiotherapy in complex contexts (20 Credits)
• SP7006 -SER PG Project (Core,60 Credits)

Entry Requirements 2022/23

Standard Entry

Applicants should normally have:

 

A minimum of a 2:1 degree in a related subject area (such as Sports Science, Health Science, Physiology, Psychology), or a non-UK physiotherapy qualification at HE diploma level and a minimum of one year of clinical experience.

 

Applicants with a 2:2 honours degree in a related subject area and relevant experience may also be considered.

 

Additional requirements:

 

Applicants will be required to attend an interview. Admission is subject to a suitable DBS Enhanced Certificate and a satisfactory health check. Applicants must meet the Health and Care Professions Council's suitability for registration requirements.

 

International qualifications:

English language requirements:

 

International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 7.0 with at least 6.5 in the written section and at least 7 in the reading, listening and speaking sections.

Fees and Funding 2022/23 Entry

UK Fee in Year 1: £9,250

 

EU Fee in Year 1: £16,500

 

International Fee in Year 1: £16,500

On completion of this course you’ll be ready to seek professional registration with HCPC so that you can work as a physiotherapist with the NHS, local authorities, charities or private sector employers. Well over 90% of our students are in employment or further study within six months of completing the course.

 

Based on your particular interests, you can choose one of your placements in a clinical area and location that reflects your career aspirations. For example you could undertake a placement in another country in order to gain experience within a fresh culture and healthcare system.

 

Our curriculum is designed not just to meet academic requirements but also HCPC Standards of Proficiency. In addition the course is approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, which further reflects its relevance to contemporary professional practice.

 

If you choose to continue your studies to a higher level, your experience of postgraduate research will provide an excellent foundation.

 

Throughout the course you will maintain a Personal and Professional Development File that will inform and support future employment opportunities. It will also provide a foundation for your continuing professional development after you leave Northumbria.

 

Whatever you decide to do, you’ll have the transferable skills that employers expect from a master’s graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.
