MSc Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management with Advanced Practice

The content of the programme is delivered via programme specific modules. These are delivered to you through a combination of lectures, seminars and workshop activities, case discussions and practical exercises, and supported by guided reading and learning resources. 

 

• You will be exposed a variety of research-informed experiences within subject modules, taught by leading entrepreneurship and innovation scholars.

• Modules draw heavily on the research and practical experience of academic staff and you will be presented with up-to-the-minute thinking and findings. External speakers and case studies from real life practice will demonstrate how theory is grounded in practice.

• The programme modules provide a balance of lecture-based input and workshop/seminar activities to facilitate your application of theory.

• Critical reflection on knowledge, experience and practice underpins the learning process, developing a key entrepreneurial competence.

• Ongoing formative feedback will be provided to support you as you self-evaluate your progress.

• Teaching and learning plans will provide guidance on the activities to be undertaken before, during and after the module lectures, seminars and workshops for each module.

• Independent and directed learning is incorporated within each module on the programme, reinforcing the philosophy of independent learning that is so critical for entrepreneurs and innovators.

• You will be expected to allocate significant personal study time.

An induction to Northumbria's Entrepreneurship Management Masters Degree, to Newcastle Business School and to Northumbria University is provided prior to the commencement of teaching.

 

This allows you the opportunity to discuss expectations (learning, assessment, contact) with your Programme Leader, explore issues relating to the mechanics of the programme (timetabling, attendance) and provides you with guidance on practical help in terms of study skills, assignment submissions, as well as giving you guidance over extenuating circumstances that may impair performance during the programme.

Entry Requirements 2022/23

 

Standard Entry

 

Applicants should normally have:

 

A minimum of a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent, or substantial experience of working in a business organisation.

 

International qualifications:

English Language requirements:

 

International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*).

Overall, the course aims to develop you as an entrepreneur and manager, with a clear understanding of the theory and practice of entrepreneurship and innovation and how to create new business ventures. The course is designed to maximise the focus on entrepreneurship, including the development of your capabilities for teamwork and decision making.

 

To further enhance your employability, we offer the opportunity to undertake a master’s consultancy project as an alternative to the traditional dissertation. You’ll work in a small group, typically no more than five people, and tackle a live project from a host organisation under the mentorship of a member of our academic team. The project can be an excellent vehicle for you to relate theory to practice while developing transferable skills.

 

This new programme is intended either to help you in your journey to setting up your own business, or to take a leadership role with an entrepreneurial organisation. If you decide to start up your own business, it’s good to know that the combined turnover of our graduates’ start-up companies is higher than that of any other UK university.

 

Northumbria's Postgraduate in Innovation Management could also lead you to a postgraduate research degree such as an MPhil, PhD and Professional Doctorate.

 

Whatever you decide to do, you will have the transferable skills that employers expect from a master’s graduate from Northumbria University. These include the ability to tackle complex issues through conceptualisation and undertaking research, the ability to contribute to new processes and knowledge, and the ability to formulate balanced judgements when considering incomplete or ambiguous data.
