Fine Art BA Hons with placement

Teaching on the Art degree programme is delivered through studio tutorials, group critiques, workshops, a series of seminar programmes and lectures. Across all three years of the programme students are expected to develop their own ideas and approaches to art making. Our seminar programmes and lectures offer an overview of key historical and theoretical contexts in modern and contemporary art and will help develop your critical thinking.

Standard Entry

 

120 UCAS Tariff points

 

From a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A-level, T Level, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas, or the International Baccalaureate.

 

Subject Requirements:

 

There are no specific subject requirements for this course.

 

GCSE Requirements:

 

Applicants will need Maths and English Language at minimum grade 4/C, or an equivalent.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

A portfolio of creative design work is required. 

 

International Qualifications:

 

We welcome applicants with a range of qualifications which may not match those shown above.

 

English Language Requirements:

 

International applicants should have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component (or an approved equivalent*).

Fees and Funding 2022/23 Entry

UK Fee in Year 1: £9,250

* The maximum tuition fee that we are permitted to charge for UK students is set by government. Tuition fees may increase in each subsequent academic year of your course, these are subject to government regulations and in line with inflation.

EU Fee in Year 1: £16,500

 

International Fee in Year 1: £16,500

On completion of the BA, many of our students move straight into practicing as artists, with a number of graduates receiving critical acclaim for their work while others move into related fields in the Arts infrastructure. Fine Art graduates are perfectly placed to move into roles in community arts; teaching; curating; arts management; assisting artists; gallery or studio management.

 

You may also choose to further your learning on the Northumbria Master of Fine Art course, delivered in partnership with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

 

Northumbria Fine Art graduates will enter the workplace environment with confidence, gained from a range of skills that will allow them to maximise their potential in an increasingly automated workplace; the so-called ‘soft’ skills of critical thinking, collaboration, creative development and project delivery will be the new ‘hard’ skills of the future. 

 

We understand how valuable work experience can be in terms of giving you a head start in your career, so we enable you to gain real-world experience in an arts setting with the option to spend a year in industry or take a short professional placement. Previous placements have included gallery and museum work in schools, art therapy, events management and production, or assisting artists in an exhibition or art production.
