Design for Industry BA Hons with study abroad

Our exciting curriculum is responsive to current industrial design practices through our collaboration with partners in both research and global industry. It promotes a learning environment that supports creative approaches to research, iterative practice-based activities, and, the use of new and emerging technologies.

 

Our adaptable studio spaces provide a learning environment conducive to both independent and collaborative work, helping you to take ownership of your individual learning experience.

 

Predominant use of project and portfolio based assessment, supplemented with scheduled tutor-led studio sessions, allows multiple opportunities to receive feedback on both an informal and formal basis.

Entry Requirements 2022/23

Standard Entry

120 UCAS Tariff points

 

From a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A-level, T Level, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas or the International Baccalaureate.

 

A Diploma in Foundation Studies Art and Design, or Art Design and Media is also accepted in combination with other qualifications

 

Subject Requirements:

There are no specific subject requirements for this course

 

GCSE Requirements:

Applicants will need Maths and English Language at minimum grade 4 or C, or the equivalent.

 

Additional Requirements:

International Qualifications:

We welcome applicants with a range of qualifications from the UK and worldwide which may not exactly match those shown above. 

 

English Language Requirements:

International applicants are required to have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component (or approved equivalent*).

Fees and Funding 2022/23 Entry

UK Fee in Year 1: £9,250

* The maximum tuition fee that we are permitted to charge for UK students is set by government. Tuition fees may increase in each subsequent academic year of your course, these are subject to government regulations and in line with inflation.

EU Fee in Year 1: £16,500

 

International Fee in Year 1: £16,500

After completing your four years of study, you will have developed your intellectual and practical skills in preparation for employment or further study. You will be able to employ the full range of communication skills at a designer’s disposal (such as sketching, model making, CAD work) towards the research, exploration and execution of a design project.

 

The course culminates at the annual New Designers exhibition in London, where our graduates are given the opportunity to make contact with industry and celebrate the outcomes of their final major projects on a public platform.

 

Some of our recent graduates have secured jobs in many London based agencies, such as ForPeople, DCA and Native. They always make an appearance at New Designers, scouting for new talent and often inviting newly graduating students to interview.

 

Real-world industrial experience lies at the heart of our course, as we believe that it is key to building the knowledge and skills for a successful career in design.

 

You have the opportunity to apply for a professional placement in your second and third years of study. Placement experience gives you a competitive edge as it can considerably develop your skillset and is highly sought by graduate employers. Many students acquire placements with global brands and leading designers/design consultancies such as: Grohe AG, Mars, Tom Dixon, Unilever, The Alloy, Black + Blum, Forpeople, Native, Seymourpowell, Therefore, Tin Horse and Plan. We believe this ‘real-world’ experience is invaluable.

 

You also have the opportunity to study abroad with a partner institution on our exchange programme, helping you to gain a more global perspective on design. Recent exchange destinations include Australia, Taiwan and South Korea.
