Year 1
In the first year you begin your training as a facilitator and director while building on your existing skills as a theatre practitioner. As a facilitator, you learn about running workshops and developing your own facilitation style, and you start to build your skills as a director through visual storytelling and working on short scenes. You explore the history of social and political theatre and how this has influenced current Applied Theatre practices. The year ends with the opportunity to consolidate the various strands of your training in a large-scale performance project for young people.

Year 3
In this year, the focus is on preparing for professional practice through producing and realising a series of community-based projects. Taking the concept of using drama for social change further, you work with community groups to facilitate a Theatre for Democracy event. In preparation for working effectively as a freelance drama practitioner or setting up your own company, you develop a critical understanding of current legislation and policies. Your work in Year 3 is largely self-directed and in the final module you plan and lead your own practical project that reflects your own career aspirations.
