The MRes in Chemistry programme runs full-time (FT) over one academic year (September to August). The programme totals 180-credits, comprising modules delivered and completed over the year. 
 

Core Taught Modules

MRes Chemistry Research Project: CHE40052 (120 Credits)

To enhance and further develop your independent research skills in the chemical sciences, focusing on experimental and instrumental skills, development, selection and execution of appropriate research methodologies, data interpretation and analysis, and scientific methods of presentation commensurate with professional standards in the field. It is also possible to complete the course via a Part Time (PT) route over two years.
 

Advanced Topics in Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry: CHE40048 (30 Credits)

To expand understanding of the essential principles of the main branches of chemistry and the impact they have in different fields. To explore and develop topics at the cutting edge of chemistry and expand knowledge and understanding of how the scientific method is applied to relevant research. To further understanding of how experiments are designed in order provide meaningful research data, whilst developing analytical and problem solving skills to solve unfamiliar problems. To further develop skills in the interpretation of data sets in the context of corroboration/refutation of chemical hypotheses, and increase awareness of the importance of critical scrutiny of research results in order to discover errors, misinformation and incorrect conclusions.
 

Advanced Research Training for Chemists: CHE40054 (30 Credits)

To further develop information literacy skills in searching for, selecting and critically evaluating relevant peer-reviewed research literature. To gain an appreciation of the chemistry research process, through engagement with issues surrounding funding, publishing, research integrity and ethics, and impact. To further develop written communication skills.

ACADEMIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• This course is open to graduates with a minimum of a 2:2 BSc (Hons) in Chemistry. 
• Successful applicants will be interviewed by the proposed research project supervisor and a member of the MRes programme team or another appropriate member of chemistry staff. 
   

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ENTRY REQUIREMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

• IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component . 

• International - Full time £17,900 per year

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will have completed a substantial research project in Chemistry which could act as a gateway to further research (e.g. PhD or industry).
 

In addition, you will be able to communicate scientific information, ideas and arguments. You will have developed your problem solving skills and demonstrate key independent learning skills which will inform your future opportunities. The programme aims to assist you with the development of key transferable skills, subject knowledge and awareness of related disciplines.
