Program Overview

This course is aimed at students from outside the UK and enables you to top-up your existing qualification to a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree upon successful completion.

  • Studied full-time over one or two years, it is designed to develop your knowledge of the event and hospitality industry, developing industry ready skills upon successful completion, as well as incorporating the advanced study of business English.
  • This course is designed to enhance your existing knowledge, skills and capabilities to respond proactively and creatively to contemporary issues in event management and hospitality operations within an increasingly global marketplace.
  • We combine the study of events marketing with hospitality management theory, aiming to provide a broad-based business education. Subjects covered include corporate planning and event marketing, live event management, strategic management and venue operations management.
  • You will explore a wide variety of contemporary issues and challenges faced by managers in the hospitality sector, both corporate and non-corporate. We will often refer to news stories and latest research or share experiences from both national and international contexts.

  • You will have the opportunity to learn how to apply business principles, including marketing theory and strategic management to the solution of hospitality and event management problems. We will also aim to utilise a variety of teaching and learning methods, such as problem-based exercises, discussions and presentations.
  • We aim to help prepare you for a career in the international hospitality industry upon successful completion of the course, and at the same time, you’ll have the chance to develop both your English language skills and intercultural competency.
  • Blending theory and practice, the course draws together your previous studies to give you the opportunity to develop your strategic knowledge and understanding in areas required by contemporary international tourism organisations.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to develop analytical, organisational, problem solving, interpersonal, communications and project management skills, together with an appreciation of the diversity of cultures involved in developing and managing international hospitality operations.
  • We aim to discuss current issues in event management and regularly invite people currently working in the events industry to share their experiences and views (subject to availability).

What you'll study

Year one

 

The below modules are studied in your first year if you are undertaking two years of study with us. We combine the study of events with management theory, aiming to provide a broad-based business education in the context of the event industry. You’ll have the opportunity to learn how to apply business principles, such as financial management, marketing theory and strategic management to the solution of event management problems. You’ll also explore the concepts, characteristics and operations of events and festivals, particularly from a commercial perspective. All modules listed below are mandatory.

  • Corporate Social Responsibility in Sport and Events – 20 credits

  • Managing Sport Events – 20 credits

  • Live Event Management – 20 credits

  • International Hospitality Operations Management – 20 credits

  • English Business Communication and Report Writing Skills – 10 credits

  • Add+vantage Module – 10 credits

Year two
The below modules are studied in your second year if you undertake two years of study with this, or in your first year if you are only undertaking one by entering at Level 6. You will have the opportunity to delve deeper into topics such as strategic marketing, managing venues, and overseeing international events, as well as studying a module covering the usage of English in a business setting. All modules listed below are mandatory.

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5

Our high-quality foundation, international year one and pre-masters courses are for international students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry to their preferred Coventry University undergraduate or postgraduate course. We can support you to achieve the academic and/or English grades you need and help you gain the personal and professional skills required to study at university.

We want to encourage ambitious international students like you to study at Coventry University, so we’ve secured extra financial support for you worth £3,000, to help with the cost of tuition fees, living expenses and accommodation.

From day one, our aim is to expose you to the events industry and you will be encouraged to enhance and build your CV with practical work experience.

We have provided volunteering opportunities at several local events organisations in the past – Fashion Live Events, Live Buzz Events, Ricoh Arena, Pandora Events, NEC, Barclaycard Arena, Local wedding venues, Coventry Blaze, Warwick Racecourse, Conference Care, as well as various charities, including Bethany’s Wish (all volunteer opportunities are subject to availability, and can be subject to a competitive application process and additional costs).

Through our Talent Team, you will have the support of dedicated employability staff who are industry trained. The team can also support you with workshops and guidance on the various aspects of the employment process such as preparing your CV, interview practice and mock assessment centres
