More than 75% of the research conducted at Bangor is either world-leading or of the highest calibre on a global scale, according to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. 77% of the research was classified in the top two tiers of research quality, which is higher than the average for all UK universities, according to the university's submission of 14 Units of Assessment. The new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) awarded Bangor University a rating of "Gold" in 2017, making it the only university in Wales to receive this designation. This rating indicates that Bangor University is of the highest calibre available in the UK and offers "consistently outstanding teaching, learning, and outcomes for its students."
In the last few years, Bangor has received great marks from its students in two separate surveys of their opinions. The university has routinely received good rankings in the UK higher education sector as well as within Wales in the National Student Survey. Students at Bangor University ranked the institution second among Welsh Universities and ninth among non-specialist universities in the UK in 2017. At the 2018 WhatUni Student Choice Awards, Bangor won Best University in the UK for Clubs and Societies for the second consecutive year. Bangor's business management and accounting programmes are well-liked throughout the UK. According to The Complete University Guide's rankings for Accounting & Finance and Business & Management Studies, Bangor is among the top 100 programmes. Although the University fell from the 251st - 300th position in 2019 to the 301st - 400th position in 2021, it maintained its position as one of Time Higher Education's top 300 universities for PG Business and Economics. The university has been ranked in the top 100 cities for Accounting and Finance programmes by The Guardian from 2017 to 2021. Similarly, its Business, Management, and Marketing programmes are in the top 100 since 2017, except for 2019 and 2020. The Guardian's Electronic & Electrical Engineering rankings moved the university up from the 23rd position in 2017 to the 19th position in 2021.
