CORPORATE STRATEGY
In today’s world, major disruptive forces are creating challenges for all business. At the same time, these forces also create numerous opportunities. This module deals with major techniques and approaches to the development and implementation of strategy for firms competing domestically and internationally. The class will explore the underlying concepts, analytical techniques, and evaluation of strategic options that form the basis for strategic analysis and action. The module will introduce key concepts and explore the reasons for the success and failure of businesses in an era of global competition. The module teaches concepts applicable to firms around the world, with a special emphasis to small and large companies based in Asia.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
This is an introductory course that aims to provide a strong conceptual foundation for finance. Finance theory will be used to solve practical problems faced by financial managers. This module will address different social entities that leaders encounter, and offers an extensive examination of leadership in and outside organisations. It aims to provide a set of experiences that are designed to enhance your self-awareness and capacity for effective leadership.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
The course stresses the theory of accounts, generally accepted accounting principles, and the interpretation of financial statements. The perspective of the course is that of managers and investors as knowledgeable users of accounting information.
MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS
The objective of this course is to provide a rigorous foundation in economic theory for analyzing the key managerial decision problems of firms and other economic organisations. The course develops the analytic tools of microeconomic theory for modeling the economic behaviour of economic agents (consumers, firms, asset owners etc.) and the functioning of markets, and shows how these tools can be applied to deal with problems of practical relevance to managers. The course takes a "modernist" approach, incorporating recent theoretical developments such as transaction costs theory, markets with asymmetric information, principal-agent models to enhance the student's appreciation of the analytic power and practical applicability of economic theory.
MARKETING MANAGEMENT
Marketing Strategy is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of goods, services, and ideas to create exchanges with target groups to satisfy customer and organizational objectives. It involves analyzing the environment to identify opportunities, and developing marketing strategies and programs to exploit such opportunities. This introductory course aims to impart marketing concepts and tools that may be applied to solve various problems in marketing strategy. It also provides an Asian perspective to the marketing strategy process.
MANAGERIAL OPERATIONS & ANALYTICS
Operations refers to the collection of actions that a firm takes to channel its resources into outputs (products/services) of value. Although not every manager will have direct control over a firm’s operating processes, all managers are, invariably, indirect stakeholders in the operations of a firm, its subsidiaries, and/or its partners. This module aims to equip students to understand of the processes of a firm in order to assess its operations thoughtfully, identify root causes of operational failure, and develop recommendations using analytics as a means of structured decision-making, with the ultimate goal of achieving impactful and sustainable operational improvement.
LEADING WITH IMPACT
Leading individuals, groups, and organizations effectively is key to managerial excellence. Yet, it could be the most difficult challenge as a professional. This module is designed to help students meet this challenge. There will be discussions of different elements of leadership and considering the stage of career students are in, a focus on becoming self-aware and recognize the challenges to leading others. The module combines self-awareness and building tools and techniques to leverage authority and power that are critical to be successful as leaders.
