Programme structure

This 60-point, taught programme has a flexible structure, so you can structure your learning around your interests – either by selecting courses within the general areas of engineering, or refining your study to a specific field of expertise. This will not affect the outcome of your final award – you will still graduate with a PGCertEng.

You must complete four 15 point, non-project courses listed in the Master of Engineering Studies schedule. Two courses (30 points) must be from the subjects below:
 

• Biomedical Engineering
• Chemical and Materials Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Computer Systems Engineering
• Electrical and Electronic Engineering
• Energy Technology
• Engineering General
• Engineering Science
• Environmental Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Software Engineering

A PGCertEng in Polymer Engineering is also available. This programme is tailored to those currently working in industry and is offered as a specific set of block courses over one year.

You must have completed an engineering degree or an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as architecture, geology, or physics. Your study must have been at a recognised university (or similar institution) and you will need a GPE of 3.0.

Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $8.16 per point, estimated at $489.60 for full-time study (60 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.

Where could this programme take you?

The PGCertEng functions largely as a pathway for further postgraduate study – while it can increase your employment opportunities, this qualification ultimately supplements your undergraduate degree with the additional technical and critical thinking skills needed to pursue an engineering masters degree.
