Program Overview

Aotearoa New Zealand suffers from ongoing issues of housing shortage and unaffordability.

This interdisciplinary programme is for professionals and aspiring professionals who seek to identify housing issues and formulate appropriate responses, processes and solutions. Your background and interest may be in architecture, engineering, environmental science, law, population health, property, urban planning or a related field.

You will learn the theory and practice of housing design, sustainability, policy, economics, affordability, regulation, procurement and management, all with a focus on the Aotearoa New Zealand situation.

Upon graduation, you will be ready to apply your knowledge to the public, private or community housing sector and help address New Zealand’s housing problems.

Programme structure

In this masters programme, you can deepen your knowledge with advanced specialist training through the courses you select.

You can select either the 120 point option or the 180 point option. Both the 120 and 180 point options include ARCHGEN 790 - Research Project (30 points).
