Program Overview

Product designers have an exciting and ever-changing career, needing to understand and anticipate market trends, design innovative concepts, and create interest in new products.

Open to students of any study background, the Master of Product Innovation (MProdInnovation) is a perfect opportunity to access specialised facilities and industry experts at university while beginning to develop your own product or business ideas.

You will get one-on-one support and guidance to help kickstart a project of your own or to help bring a project to life. The support you receive at UC will help to ensure your success.

Those wanting to build on their previous studies in product design may want to consider the Master of Product Design.

Course Content
The MProdInnovation is 180 points in total, made up of 30 points of compulsory courses, 60 points of elective courses, and followed by a 90-point practical project.

The programme begins in 2021 and students can start in either February or July. The degree will take 18 months of full-time study, or up to 3 years of part-time study.

This Master’s involves compulsory and elective courses in both specialised product design and business marketing. The final project course allows you to independently develop a product idea with support from an industry supervisor.

Entry Requirement

Any previous bachelor’s degree study (or other qualifications of an equivalent standard), and a B Grade Point Average in your final-year courses are open to enrol.

English language requirements for postgraduate qualifications

If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following:

ENGLISH TEST	MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
IELTS Academic	An average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
TOEFL iBT	Total minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.
TOEFL PBT	With a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5
CCEL EAP	Level 2 with a minimum B+ grade
CAE or CPE	Score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Pearson Test of English (Academic)	PTE with an overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50
NZCEL	Level 5
FluentIQ	Overall mark of 8/10 with nothing less than a 7 being scored in a single category.
LanguageCert	C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS
NZAPA	English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3 (with no skill lower than Level 2)
