Program Overview

The Bachelor of Commerce with Honours is for high-achieving students with a relevant bachelor's degree. A choice of seven subjects is available.

As a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours graduate you will be able to:

demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of current theoretical concepts and frameworks within your major discipline
think logically, analytically, and critically with respect to the academic literature in your major discipline
plan and carry out a supervised programme of academic research that shows a sound understanding of ethical practice
synthesise academic or professional literature and effectively communicate research orally and in written form.

Course Content
The BCom(Hons) comprises one year of coursework (between six and nine courses) to the value of at least 120 points.

The honours programme must be completed within 1 year of full-time study, or with approval up to 4 years of part-time study.

Combined Honours

With permission of each of the Heads of Department concerned, you may complete the Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in two subjects (combined honours).

You will need to satisfy the course requirements for entry to honours in each subject, take honours-level courses totalling at least 60 points in each subject, and have a total points value no less than the minimum allowed for a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours degree in either subject. Included in these courses must be a research course that normally would reflect the combined nature of the degree.

Entry Requirement

You must have qualified for a bachelor's degree, and satisfied the prerequisites for your major subject. Prerequisites vary between departments, but normally good grades in 300-level courses in the subject is required.

English language requirements for undergraduate qualifications

If you want to study towards a Bachelor Degree (excluding teaching degrees), Certificate of Proficiency, Undergraduate Certificate or Diploma, or Graduate Certificate or Diploma you must have one of the following:

APPROVED ENGLISH TESTS	MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
IELTS	Academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
TOEFL iBT	Total minimum score of 80, with at least 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.
TOEFL PBT	With a minimum score of 550 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5
CCEL EAP	Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade
CAE or CPE	minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Pearson Test of English (Academic)	PTE with an overall score of 46 and no PTE communicative skills score below 36
NZCEL	Level 4 - Academic endorsement
FluentIQ	Overall mark of 8/10 with nothing less than a 7 being scored in a single category.
LanguageCert	B2 Communicator (LRWS) overall with High Pass
NZAPA	English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 2 (with no skill lower than Level 1)
