• Policies and procedures
• Accounting software packages
• Spreadsheets
• Financial and performance reports
• Analysis of purchasing options

Presenting Text in a Digital World (10 Credits)

Select and use appropriate software applications to produce and present text and digital content for business entities. The course covers:

• Advanced word processing
• Appropriate conventions for emails, letters, reports etc
• Digital transcription
• Editing tools and techniques
• Presentation software
• Oral presentation techniques
• Content editing across a variety of digital platforms
• Communication
• Writing for business
• Critiquing for accuracy and appropriateness
• Culturally appropriate writing
• Graphics, charts and logos
• Social media for business
• Relevant legal frameworks

Advanced Customer Relations (10 Credits)

Learn strategies to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to contribute to the performance of a business entity. The course covers:

• Communication strategies
• Internal and external communication
• Conflict resolution - customer complaints, workplace conflicts, and diffusing difficult and challenging stakeholder situations
• Feedback and evaluation
• Professional attitude and behaviour - presentation, preparedness and punctuality; confidentiality; and social responsibility and ethics
• Service skills - frontline customer relationship skills; providing service within a team; external stakeholder relationship and networking skills; and exceeding stakeholder expectations
• Relevant software applications
• Relevant legislation, policies and procedures

Workplace Practices (10 Credits) (35 work experience hours)

Use a range of administrative and technical skills in a workplace setting, and prepare for progression in your career. The course covers:

• Work readiness - CV, job application letters, rights and obligations, interview skills, and cold calling techniques
• Health and wellbeing
• Professionalism
• Ethics
• Industry specific systems and processes

Applied Business Solutions (10 Credits)

Apply a range of efficient workflow solutions to contribute to the operational and administrative requirements of a business entity. The course covers:

• Critical thinking
• Productivity, efficient systems/workflows, time management
• Spreadsheets (pivot tables, templates, macros, advanced graphs and reporting)
• Syncing digital devices
• Global and flexible working solutions
• Debtor management, creditor management, payment solutions
• Travel - arranging travel, policies, working remotely
• Equipment solutions and systems
• Software applications - project management software, client relationship management software, travel booking systems, time management software, and debtor management software
• Supporting operational policy and procedures

Domestic Entry Requirements

NCEA Level 2

OR

equivalent academic achievement, such as New Zealand Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology) (Level 3)

OR

on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Executive Dean

English language proficiency

If English is not your first language, you must also demonstrate English language skills equivalent to an IELTS overall band score (academic) of 5.5 with no band score less than 5 (or equivalent including TOEFL). IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form (i.e. combining scores from more than one test is not permissible).  UCOL is a TOEFL testing centre.

International Entry Requirements

In addition to the Domestic Entry Requirements, the following applies to international student applicants.

English language proficiency

International student applicants whose first language is not English must have an IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 (or equivalent including TOEFL). IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form (i.e. combining scores from more than one test is not permissible). UCOL is a TOEFL testing centre.

Under 20 years of age

In addition to this, international applicants under 20 years of age must have NCEA equivalency.

Successful graduates of UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology) (Level 4) will be able to:
