Program Overview

Develop a foundation in business with the one-year Diploma in Business, and gain skills in a broad range of business subjects.

You can study degree-level courses from a wide range of business subjects including accounting, economics, finance, human resources and employment relations, information systems, international business, management and marketing.

This programme is also suitable for students who have narrowly missed UE. When you successfully complete the Diploma in Business, you can cross-credit your courses and transfer to a Bachelor of Business.

Course Content
With the Diploma in Business, you’ll develop numeracy, literacy, interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills while studying courses of your choice.*

Pathway 1: Diploma in Business – Transition to the Bachelor of Business

Students who have narrowly missed UE can use the Diploma in Business to transition into the Bachelor of Business. If you successfully complete this pathway, you can credit 120 points toward your first year of the Bachelor of Business.

- BUSS505 Consumer and Organisational Behaviour
- BUSS507 Financial Decision Making and Information Systems
- BUSS508 Economics and International Business
- BUSS509 Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability
You’ll also choose two elective courses from subjects like accounting, economics, information systems, entrepreneurship and innovation, finance, law, marketing and management. We recommend that you align your elective courses with your intended Bachelor of Business major or minor to make it easy for you to transition into the second year of the Bachelor of Business.

Pathway 2: general Diploma in Business

If you have UE, you can enter the Diploma in Business general pathway. You’ll choose eight 15-point courses from the Bachelor of Business, subject to approval of the programme leader.

Minimum entry requirements
- University Entrance OR
- 42 NCEA level 3 credits, including UE literacy and numeracy, with:
  
  10 credits in each of three approved subjects OR
  
  12 credits in each of two approved subjects and 14 credits across two further subjects
International student entry requirements

English language requirements
- IELTS (Academic) 5.5 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in Writing and all other bands 5.0 or higher
