Business Studies International Hotel Management

Year 1 · Study at Shannon College

Professional, practical training forms an essential part of the Year 1 studies as students rotate between seven professional classes – Front Office, IT, Accommodation Services, Skills for Work Life, Food Science, Restaurant Service and Culinary Arts.
 

Business modules such as Accounting and Management are also introduced and students study their second language (French, German, Spanish, English or Intercultural Communication).
 

Year 2 · Professional Operative Work Placement
The Year 2 work placement is a 12 month paid professional work placement in leading European hotels. Student spend this time working in a variety of different departments within their hotel. This experience is design to reinforce the training in Year 1 and improve knowledge of industry practice and systems. Students also have the opportunity to work in different parts of Europe, improve their language skills and experience a new culture.
 

Year 3 · Study at Shannon College
In Year 3, students advance from their practical training and the introduction in Year 1 and instead focus on modules improving their industry knowledge and management skills. They will study modules such as Rooms Division Management and Hospitality Law. The language module is continued and more advanced business modules such as Business Finance and Marketing Principles are studied.
 

Year 4 · Study at Shannon College
Students concentrate on advanced business modules such as Performance Management & Control and Research Methods. Important strategic subject areas such as Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management prepare students for their future careers in a variety of sectors. In Year 4, students will also have the opportunity to choose elective subjects in both semesters. These electives are in areas where the student has developed a particular interest such as Culinary Arts, Event Management, Wine Appreciation and many more.
 

Trainee Management Work Placement
At the end of Year 4, students commence a trainee management work placement which is the students’ first job and the beginning of their career.  International hotel companies visit Shannon College to recruit students onto management development programmes and as direct hires in properties around the world.

Undergraduate and mature students can satisfy matriculation registration requirements for NUI Galway by achieving certain grades in the following examinations. 
 

Leaving certificate (for EU and non-EU)

You need a pass in at least six subjects in the Leaving Certificate in accordance with College requirements with:

• Minimum Grade H5 (Higher Level) in two subjects 

• Passes in the remaining four subjects at O6/ H7 
   

You should pick your subjects based on the requirements for entry to your desired course.
 

All subjects of the Leaving Certificate are accepted for matriculation registration purposes, with the exception of Gaeilge Bonnleibhéal (Irish Foundation Level), Mathematics (Ordinary Alternative/Foundation Level and; Home Economics (General), which is recognised only for St. Angela's College, Sligo.
 

GCE and GSCE
 

You need a pass in at least six subjects in accordance with College requirements with at least:

• GCE Advanced Level: Grade C in two recognised subjects and

• GCSE Level: Grade C in four recognised subjects.
   

You should pick your subjects based on the requirements for entry to your desired course.

English Language Requirement:

IELTS :- 6.5

TOEFL :- 88

The fees for Business Studies  International Hotel Management may vary from €13,000 to €25,000 anually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for international students.
