MA Philosophy Politics and Economics

Candidates take six modules (three in each semester) and write a dissertation of 15,000-20,000 words under the supervision of a designated supervisor. The 90 credits for the MA will be made up of 60 credits awarded for taught modules and 30 credits for the dissertation. Students are required to take the core module PH636 and either EC690 (dissertation in Economics) or PH699 (dissertation in Philosophy) or SO690 (Thesis in Politics).  Students are required to take a minimum of 10 credits in taught modules in each of the three subject areas; Philosophy (PH-code modules), Politics (SO-code modules), and Economics (EC-code modules). 

Students can take at most 10 credits of u/g modules and students who took these modules at undergraduate level (either in MU or an equivalent elsewhere) cannot take them again as a Master’s student.  

The degree is targeted at high quality undergraduate students who have obtained at least a 2.2 degree in either PPE, Economics, Philosophy, Politics or a related subject. A Background in Economics is highly recommended.

Students will be accepted on the basis of a successful interview.

Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

The fees for MA Philosophy Politics and Economics may vary from €6,500 to €15,000 annually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for International Students.
