1st Year (60 credits)

30 credits in Economics:
These include Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Intermediate Quantitative Analysis, Econometrics (Statistics for Economists), Information Economics and a research skills module called Exploring Economics.

30 credits in other Arts Subjects:
Students take two 15-credit subjects or one 30-credit double Arts subject  from Group I, III or V, (excluding Maths Studies) with no more than one subject from each group.
 
2nd Year (60 credits)

40 credits in Economics core modules:
These include Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Econometrics, R for Data Science and Statistics, Advanced Quantitative Methods, Corporate Finance, BSc Team Project and History of Economic Thought.

At least 15 credits from the following optional Economics modules:
Money and Banking, Public Economics, Economics of the Environment, Economics of Crime and Economics of Sport.

And at most 5 credits outside of Economics from a wide selection of disciplines including Business, Geography, History, International Development, Philosophy and Politics.

 
3rd Year (60 credits)

25 credits in Economics core modules:
These include Advanced Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Applied Econometrics and BSc Economics Thesis

At least 25 credits from the following (if not taken before):
Portfolio Selection and Analysis, Health Economics, Economics of the European Union, Data Analysis, Econ of Work and Life Decision, Competition and Regulation, International Macroeconomics, International Trade, Economics of the Environment, Economics of Sport.

And at most 10 credits outside of Economics from a wide selection of disciplines including Business, Geography, History, International Development, Mathematics, Philosophy and Politics.

Mature student applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on application, written assessment and/or interview. 

 
O4/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics or equivalent is required.
 

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.

The fees for BSC Economics may vary from €6,500 to €15,000 annually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for International Students.

Options after graduation?

• As a BSc Economics graduate, you will have the tools to become a key player in business and in public policy. You will have wide career choices as a consultant, fund manager, investment banker, urban planner, journalist, teacher, policy maker as well as many other areas.
• Upon graduation, you will have the option of progressing to the MSc Economics at Maynooth. This will provide further job opportunities for professional economists including, but not limited to, economics consultancy firms, policy institutes, the Central Bank, and the Department of Finance.
• As well as offering an integrated route into our MSc Economics, the programme provides strong foundations should you choose to pursue a master’s in a variety of areas such as finance, business, international development, public policy, public administration and data science.
• According to statistics reported by Forbes, on average economics degree holders are very well paid compared to nearly every other field. PayScale documents substantial wage growth over the first ten years of work life, almost doubling the entry pay level.
