Program Overview

Psychology is the scientific study of mental life and behaviour. It involves areas such as Brain and Behaviour, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Psychological Research Methods.

If your ambition is to develop a career as a professional psychologist, our Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) accredited degree is the first stage in professional training that will require an additional two to six years of study and supervised experience.

You will study Psychology along with two Arts subjects in first year, concentrating on Psychology only in second and third year.

Course Content
A year of study is 60 credits.

FIRST YEAR
- Psychology plus 2 other subjects from groups 1, 3, 4, 5 (maximum one per group)
- 1 of your other subjects may be Critical Skills in 1st year
SECOND AND THIRD YEAR
- You will concentrate on Psychology in 2nd and 3rd year
- At the end of first year, students who do not wish to continue with MH106 have the option of continuing in MH101 with their other 2 Arts subjects, or with Psychological Studies and another subject as a Double Major.
- Students may apply to study overseas after second year (on Erasmus or Study Abroad) and graduate with a BA (International) after 4 years. See the International Studies website for details.
Entry Requirement
A mature student is 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on your application. Written assessment. Candidates are shortlisted for interview on the basis of written assessment.

Apply to the CAO by February 1st 2022. Late applications from mature students may be accepted after this date - consult the Undergraduate Studies website for updates. Application may not be made to the CAO after May 1st 2022.

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.
Fees & Scholarships
The fees for BA Psychology may vary from €6,500 to €15,000 annually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for International Students.
