Manitoba College and Wesley College founded UWinnipeg, which amalgamated to establish United College in 1938. When United College got its charter in 1967, it received its current title. The governance was modeled after the provincial University of Toronto Act of 1906, which established a bicameral system of university government consisting of a senate responsible for academic policy and a board of governors with sole control over financial policy and formal authority over all other matters. Facilities
The University of Winnipeg's Facilities Management Department is in charge of the campus's planning, design, construction, and operation, which encompasses about 1.6 million gross square feet in 20 buildings on 15 acres of land. The Recreation Services section manages and plans activities at both the Duckworth Centre and the Axworthy Health and RecPlex. These facilities are used for a wide range of activities, including recreational programs, sports, fitness courses, university and collegiate academic activity classes and intramurals, community and cultural events, and so much more. The activity rooms in these facilities are available for rent all year.
