MA in Philosophy

We have two main avenues to the M.A. degree

The Coursework Stream
 

• Students are required to take eight graduate courses, two of which could be taken from outside of Philosophy.
• Students in the coursework stream who complete at least six graduate courses with a minimum GPA of 80% and secure the support of an academic supervisor for a proposed major research paper may complete the degree with a major paper (with permission from the Graduate Committee). Two of the six courses could be taken from outside of Philosophy.
• Students in the coursework stream who complete four graduate courses in Philosophy at the University of Windsor with a minimum GPA of 85% and secure the support of an academic supervisor for a proposed thesis may complete their degree with a thesis (with permission of the Graduate Committee).

The Major paper stream
 

• Students are required to take six graduate courses plus a major paper. Two of the six courses may be taken from outside of Philosophy.
• Students in the major paper stream who complete four graduate courses in Philosophy at the University of Windsor with a minimum GPA of 85% and secure the support of an academic supervisor for a proposed thesis may complete their degree with a thesis (with permission from the Graduate Committee).

Program Specific Admission Requirements
 

• Minimum GPA: 73% (coursework stream); 80% (major paper stream)
• Minimum TOEFL: IBT-100
• Minimum IELTS: 7.0
• Minimum Pearson: 68

Additional Requirements
 

• A Statement of Research Interest/Study Plan (under 500 words)
• A sample of philosophical writing
• Two letters of reference

The tuition fees for MA in Philosophy may vary from $20,000 to $40,000 annually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for International Students.

Our program prepares students for further scholarly pursuits such as doctoral studies in philosophy or law school, and for careers in public service, public relations, policy analysis, education, or research.
