Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM)

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
 

As an MSFM student, you will spend 9 months studying full-time on UBC’s Vancouver campus. The program’s curriculum includes a mix of coursework, hands-on fieldwork, and real-world experience, including:
 

• The fundamentals of land management, land info acquisition and analysis, site-level and landscape-level management, and sustainable land management
• Two one-week field camps, including one in a research forest
• Integration of diverse skills and problems to address

MINIMUM ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
 

The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies establishes the minimum admission requirements common to all applicants, usually a minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC). The graduate program that you are applying to may have additional requirements. Please review the specific requirements for applicants with credentials from institutions in:
 

• Canada or the United States
• International countries other than the United States
   

Each program may set higher academic minimum requirements.
 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEST

Minimum requirements for the two most common English language proficiency tests to apply to this program are listed below:
 

TOEFL: Overall score requirement: 100
 

IELTS: Overall score requirement: 6.5

The fees for Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM) may vary from $35,000 to $45,000 anually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for international students.

As an MSFM graduate, you will be equipped to:
 

• Design and implement site-level and landscape-level plans that integrate the environmental, social, and economic components of sustainability
• Become a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with member agencies of the Canadian Federation of Professional Foresters Associations (including the Association of BC Forest Professionals) or a Certified Forester® with the Society of American Foresters
• Find employment in government, industry, and consulting organizations
