Program Overview

The M.U.P. degree comprises a total of 60 credits completed over a two-year period. Students must register for at least four terms during which they attend and earn satisfactory grades (i.e., a minimum of B-) in structured courses. With a faculty advisor, students create their own program of study and specialise in an area matching their personal background and professional goals. Central to the educational experience is group work in a studio setting, in which students collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to solve 'real-life' problems in the Montréal metropolitan region.

Students devote their first two terms to fulfilling the basic requirements of the program--two studios and other core courses--while also exploring one or more areas of specialisation through complementary and elective courses, which can be taken within the School of Urban Planning, in other academic units at McGill University, or at any of the three other major academic institutions in Montréal.

In the second year of study, all students pursue their specific interests in a third studio and through additional complementary or elective courses. Students approved to participate in the Field Study Semester spend the fall in the Barbados, taking dedicated courses.  Courses taken in Barbados during that semester substitute for courses taken on campus.
