Program Overview

The Bachelor in Engineering in Bioengineering will provide students with the ability to apply systematic knowledge of biology, physical sciences, and mathematics, and sound engineering foundations in order to solve problems of a biological nature.
It also prepares students for the broad area of bioengineering, incorporating both biology-focused biological engineering and medicine-focused biomedical engineering.
Students will acquire fundamental knowledge in bioengineering-related natural sciences and mathematics, as well as in the foundations of general engineering and bioengineering.
The Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) program had become accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB).
Students will also acquire knowledge in one area of specialization of bioengineering:
- biological materials and biomechanics
- biomolecular and cellular engineering
- biological information and computation

Course Content
The Department of Bioengineering in the Faculty of Engineering accepts undergraduate students into a highly competitive B.Eng. in Bioengineering, which educates engineers with a strong foundation in biological sciences, specializing in: (i) biological materials, mechanics, and sensing, (ii) biomolecular, cellular, and tissue engineering, or (iii) biological information and computational bioengineering. The Department also co-administers the Biological & Biomedical Engineering (BBME) program described below.
Entry Requirement
Students must meet the following requirements for admission in McGill’s Engineering program:
- A- average in grades 10, 11 and 12
- A- in each prerequisite math and science
- ACT 31 (Maths & Science subscores ≥ 29, others ≥ 27); or
- SAT: EB Read & Writing 700, Math 700 and Subject Tests: 680 in each subject
- Students must have basic knowledge in Pre-calculus, Chemistry, and Physics

Bioengineering graduates work in the medical and pharmaceutical industries as well as many other areas where an engineering perspective on the life sciences is needed, or progress to graduate programs, which may be either engineering-orientated, or in medical schools.
